The Lead Web Designer is responsible for driving the visual design and user experience of web and digital interfaces. This role combines creative leadership, UX/UI expertise, and front-end design knowledge to deliver intuitive, visually appealing, and high-performing websites and digital experiences. The Lead Web Designer will mentor design teams, collaborate with developers and produc t owners, and ensure brand consistency across all digital platforms. 

 

Job Description (Main Duties and Responsibilities):  

  • Lead the end-to-end design process for websites, landing pages, and digital interfaces—from concept to final delivery. 
  • Define and uphold design standards, brand guidelines, and user experience principles across all digital assets. 
  • Collaborate with marketing, development, and product teams to translate business goals into user-centered design solutions. 
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and A/B testing to inform design decisions. 
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups using modern design tools. 
  • Ensure designs are optimized for responsiveness, accessibility (WCAG 2.1), and cross-browser compatibility. 
  • Oversee and mentor junior designers, providing feedback, design critiques, and career guidance. 
  • Work closely with developers to ensure seamless handoff of design assets and maintain design integrity during implementation. 
  • Stay current with emerging design trends, web technologies, and UX best practices. 

 

Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience Needed [The candidate must demonstrate these in all stages of assessment]  

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Fine Arts, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or related field. 
  • 6–10+ years of professional experience in web designUI/UX design, or digital product design, including at least 2 years in leadership or mentoring capacity. 
  • Proven portfolio showcasing high-quality web and mobile design projects. 
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and modern web standards
  • Experience leading cross-functional design and development projects. 
  • The Lead Web Designer should have deep expertise across UI/UX design, visual design, and front-end fundamentals, including: 
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or InVision for wireframing, prototyping, and UI design. 
  • Strong command of Adobe Creative Suite — particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects for visual and motion design. 
  • Experience creating design systems and reusable UI component libraries. 
  • Solid understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to effectively collaborate with developers. 
  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks like React, Vue.js, or Angular (bonus). 
  • Knowledge of CSS frameworks (Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS) and responsive grid systems. 
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG, ARIA) and SEO-friendly design principles. 
  • Experience conducting user research, persona development, journey mapping, and information architecture. 
  • Ability to apply UX best practices to enhance usability and optimize conversions. 
  • Hands-on experience with usability testing and A/B testing tools (e.g., Hotjar, Optimizely, Maze). 
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git, GitHub) for design-developer collaboration. 
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Trello, Slack, and Confluence. 
  • Understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies for iterative design processes. 
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and heatmap tools for measuring design effectiveness. 
  • Ability to interpret analytics data to inform design improvements and A/B testing decisions.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree or above in the UK or Equivalent.  

Salary: GBP 44000 to GBP 55000 per annum
